Android app privacy policy

Last updated 20 October 2026

This policy covers the OpenPixels app for Android (com.openpixels.app), as installed from Google Play or downloaded from openpixels.app. The website has its own privacy policy. OpenPixels is open source, so none of this has to be taken on trust — the source is at gitlab.com/openpixelsapp/OpenPixels and every claim here can be checked against it.

On Android, OpenPixels enlarges photos up to 8×, removes noise and JPEG artefacts, and processes several photos in one batch. Face restoration, colourising and background removal are not part of the Android app.

The short version: your photo is processed on your phone and saved back to your phone. It is never uploaded, because there is no server anywhere in this product that accepts an image. The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising. Using it needs no account. The only network activity, unless you choose to sign in, is downloading the AI models the first time a feature needs them.

What the app never collects

Permissions

The app requests one permission: internet access, used to download the AI models and, if you choose to, to sign in. It does not request access to your storage, photos or camera:

What is stored, on your phone only

None of this includes your photographs, except the results you save. Uninstalling the app removes everything above. Photos you saved stay in your gallery until you delete them.

What our server sees when a model downloads

The models are downloaded from openpixels.app, our own server, not from a third party. Like any web server, it records standard access log lines for each request: the IP address, the time, the file requested and the user-agent string. The request carries no photo, no account and nothing about your device beyond that. These logs are used only to keep the service running, are not combined with anything else, are not sold or shared, and are rotated and deleted on a short cycle.

The optional account

Nothing in the app needs an account. There is an Account screen because accounts and credits are shared across our apps, and signing in lets you see that shared balance. Nothing can be bought in the Android app.

If you sign in, you choose one of three methods:

Our account server, at auth.openpixels.app, stores what that method provides, plus an account ID, your credit balance, and the history of credits added and spent. It is used only to run your account. It is not used for advertising, not sold, and not shared with anyone. No photograph, and nothing derived from one, is ever part of these requests. Our own servers are the only ones the app contacts.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time:

Deletion takes effect immediately. Your sign-in methods are removed, and with them your email address, name and wallet or Nostr identity. The account itself becomes an anonymous record, with no name or email, that keeps its credit history, because that history is an accounting record. Any remaining credits are lost. The account is the same in all of our apps, so deleting it deletes it everywhere.

Children's privacy

OpenPixels is not directed at children under 13, and it collects no personal data from anyone who does not sign in.

Your rights

Regulations such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export and delete the personal data a service holds about you. If you have never signed in, we hold nothing about you. If you have, write to the address below to exercise any of those rights, or delete the account yourself as described above.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will be updated. If the app ever gained a feature that sent anything anywhere, it would be described here before the feature shipped, not after.
