Make background white in one step
OpenPixels is a free photo enhancer that runs in your browser. To make background white, it separates the subject from everything behind it and fills the rest with plain white, on your own device. The photo is never uploaded.
Free, no account, no watermark, and no limit on how many photos you process.
A white background photo, not a white box.
Plain white behind the subject
A background removal model finds the subject, and everything around it becomes solid white. The result is an ordinary image with no transparency, ready for a listing, a form or a document.
The cut follows the subject
The edge follows the outline of the subject rather than a box around it, so the white reaches right up to it.
Need transparency instead?
Choose Remove it and the background is cut away instead. The transparent background maker page covers that.
Make background white in five steps.
- Open the web app and press Choose a photo, or drop the photo anywhere on the page.
- Under Size, choose Same size, just cleaner to keep the photo at its own size. The app starts at 2×.
- Open More options and, under Background, choose Make it white.
- Press Enhance, then drag the slider to compare Original with Result.
- Press Save the photo.
That is all it takes to make background white on one photo. For a batch, use Several at once, choose Make it white once, and every photo gets the same white background. The results come back as a single ZIP, with no limit on how many.
A white background for product photos, in a batch.
A white background for product photos is usually needed for a whole catalogue rather than one picture. Open Several at once, press Choose photos and pick every product shot, choose Make it white once, then press Start. It will make background white on each photo in turn, on your own device, with no limit on how many.
The white is pure white, #FFFFFF (red, green and blue all 255), and the result has no transparency. Download all as a ZIP gives you every photo in one file. If a listing or a design tool will place the product on a background itself, choose Remove it instead: the cut-out saves as a PNG so the transparency survives.
To make background white on product shots and keep them consistent, photograph each product against a plain, evenly lit backdrop. The cut is cleanest where the product and what is behind it differ in color.
Add a white background to a photo without sending it anywhere.
A white background photo is what many shop listings, profiles and forms ask for, and the photo is often of a person or of something not yet public. Here you make background white without the photo leaving your device, because the model runs inside your browser tab.
OpenPixels does not check a photo against any site’s rules for size, margins or framing, so read what the listing or form asks for.
In the web app and the browser extension.
Background removal runs in the web app at openpixels.app and in the Chrome and Firefox extension. The Mac, Windows and Android apps do not do it yet, so to make background white, open the web app.
The first run downloads the background model once, about 5 MB, with a progress bar. After that it works with no network connection.
What it will not do.
Only white. There is no option for another color behind the subject. For a brand color or a gradient, choose Remove it and add the color in the editor you use next.
Fine hair, fur, glass and other see-through edges are the hardest part of any cut-out. Look at the edges at full size before you use the result. Where the subject and the background are the same color, the cut follows that same ambiguity.
There is no server to pay for.
Tools that charge for this upload your photo and pay for the GPU that handles it. That server bill is what a subscription or a per-photo credit covers.
OpenPixels has no such bill. The AI models run inside your browser through WebAssembly and WebGPU, on your own processor, so there is nothing to charge you for.
Before you open it.
Is it free to make background white here?
Yes, entirely. There is no paid tier, no account, no trial, no watermark, no credits and no limit on how many photos you process. The work happens on your own device, so there is no per-photo cost to pass on.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The background is replaced inside your browser tab and the photo never leaves your device. There is no server in OpenPixels that accepts an image.
Can I add a white background to a product photo?
Yes, to any photo with a clear subject. Everything behind the subject becomes solid white. The app does not check the result against any marketplace’s image rules, so check those yourself.
Can I make the background a different color?
No. The choices are white or transparent. For any other color, choose Remove it and add the color in the editor you use next.
Can I make background white on several photos at once?
Yes. Use Several at once, choose Make it white once, and every photo gets a white background. The results download as a single ZIP, with no limit on how many.
Do I need an account?
No. Every feature works with no account and no sign-in.

The same app also enlarges a photo up to 8×, restores old photos and colorizes a black and white photo, all on your own device. See what else it does.
